Definition of Terms

LCL

LCL means Less Container Load. If a shipper does not have enough goods to accommodate in a fully loaded container, he arrange with a consolidator to book his cargo. This type of shipment is called LCL shipment.

FCL

FCL means Full Container Load. If an exporter has goods to accommodate in one full container load, he books an FCL (Full Container Load) to stuff his cargo. In an FCL cargo, the complete goods in the The term FCL. What is FCL meanssaid container owns by one shipper.

LCL Buyers Console

In some countries, the shipping lines do not offer LCL shipping services and these services are handled by Groupage Operators. In these countries, the LCL cargo is delivered by the client to a warehouse for packing into a container. The act of collecting the LCL cargo from the various shippers and packing into a container is known as LCL Consolidation.

Reefer Containers

A reefer or refrigerated container is an intermodal container (shipping container) used in intermodal freight transport that is refrigerated for the transportation of temperature sensitive cargo.

Open Top Containers

The walls of open-top containers are generally made of corrugated steel. The floor is made of wood. It has the following typical distinguishing structural features. The roof consists of removable bows and a removable tarpaulin.

Flatrack Containers

Flat rack containers are especially suitable for heavy loads and cargo that needs loading from the top or sides, such as pipes and machinery. You will find collapsible containers and non-collapsible containers with or without walls. Flat rack containers are manufactured from steel and come in 20′ and 40′ sizes.

Hard Top Containers

Hardtop containers can be loaded more conveniently from above or through the door, as the roof can be removed with a forklift or crane. The upper door header can be swung open to the side. The hardtop container has a highly effective labyrinth rubber seal.

Flat Bed Containers

For the majority of shipping container companies, flat bed containers are a premium product for the transport of freight and cargo that falls outside the convenient dimensions of dry cargo intermodal containers. Flat bed containers are without sides, ends and roof. They are used for odd-sized cargo which does not fit on or in any other type of container.

Platform Containers

Flat rack containers that have no ends are known simply as platform containers. Platform container is just a flat rack without any “ends”. As such, they cannot be said to “contain” anything although they are extremely useful for dimensional, heavy or bulky cargo.

Ventilated Containers

Ventilated containers are also known as passive (naturally) ventilated or coffee containers. Ventilation is provided by ventilation openings in the top and bottom side rails. The openings do not let in spray, to prevent depreciation of the cargo by rain or spray, for example. Lashing rings, to which the cargo may be secured, are installed in the upper and lower side rails and the corner posts. The lashing rings may take loads of up to 1,000 kg. The common size for ventilated containers is 20′.

ISO Tanks

An ISO Tank is a tank container which is built to the ISO standard (International Organisation for Standardisation). ISO tanks are designed to carry liquids in bulk, both hazardous and non-hazardous. The tank is made of stainless steel and is surrounded by various types of protective layers.
